Trolls Defeat Eagles

The No. 2 Trolls hosted No. 6 Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois) in a semifinal game of the CCAC Tournament. Trinity controlled play in the first half and took a 1-0 half-time lead. The Eagles quickly got on the board in the second period and it was not until late in the game that Trinity score again for the game winner and the 2-1 victory. With the win the Trolls advance to the championship game on November 10.

While Trinity controlled possession for a large majority of the first half, they did not get a shot off until the 22nd minute. That first shot was a goal when Jessica Owen finished a pass by Drew McCarthy. In the rest of the half the Trolls took five more shots and allowed Robert Morris only three.

Trinity’s 1-0 lead was quickly erased in the second period when Robert Morris scored three minutes into the half.  In a deadlock the teams battled back and forth for the next 37 minutes in attempt to get the lead.

The Trolls gained the advantage in the 84th minute when they scored again. Jadyn Wilson crossed a ball from the right side to the far post and Alexa Miller was there to slip the ball by the Eagle goalkeeper.  The pace intensified in the remaining minutes, but the Trolls held on to their lead.

Trinity ended the game with 15 shots and Robert Morris had nine. Sierra Christopher had two saves and Emily Ponstein had four.

The Trolls advance to the championship game and will take on the winner of the No. 1 Olivet Nazarene University-No. 4 Cardinal Stritch University semifinal game. The championship game will be played at the team of the higher seed.
