Trinity Snatches Overtime Win

The Trolls make it three wins in a row and stay in the top part of the conference standings with an overtime victory at the University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois).  Trinity took a 1-0 lead at the half and maintained that lead until late in the game when St. Francis tied the game. Two minutes into the overtime period, the Trolls got the golden goal to end the game in a 2-1 win and to hand the Fighting Saints their first CCAC loss. The team is improves to 10-1 overall and 3-1 in the CCAC.

The Trolls gained the advantage in the game midway through the first period when they got on the board. The shot come from Chloe Smith who nailed the upper corner of the net on a pass from Jessica Owen.  

For the rest of the first half and the majority of the second half the Trolls maintained their 1-0 lead.  The game changed in the 79th minute when St. Francis scored to put the teams in a tie. Trinity had a couple of great opportunities in the remaining time as one shot hit the post and another was blocked from going into the goal by a sliding defender.   However without a goal the game pushed into overtime.

The Trolls continued to attack in the overtime period. Two minutes into the extended period Owen took a pass from Shaelyn Postmus and found the far post for the game winner.

For the game Trinity ended with 21 shots and St. Francis had seven.

The Trolls continue conference play on October 4 at Olivet Nazarene University at 5 pm.
