Student-Athlete Spotlight: Sierra Christopher

Sierra Christopher ’18 is a long way from her home in Irvine, California, but has made Trinity her second home and found a “family” in the women’s soccer team. For the past three seasons Sierra has been a member of the soccer team as a goalkeeper and earned her spot as starting keeper this past fall.

In her freshman year Sierra served the team as back-up goalie. The next season, she was the starting keeper in half of the team’s game. During that season she posted a 1.42 goal against average and ranked fifth in the CCAC in that category.

This past fall, Sierra was the team’s starting goalkeeper and had a great season statistically. With a 1.12 goal against average she ranked fourth in the conference. She also had 86 saves and was a part of the team’s eight shut-outs, four of which were solo and four were shared saves.

In her time on the team, Sierra has helped the team advance to the NCCAA National Championship for the past two years.  In the 2016 tournament she allowed only one goal in the team’s two games.

Academically Sierra is studying history and middle school education with plans on teaching after graduation.  This past fall she was named to the CCAC Women’s Soccer Scholar-Team.

Get to know Sierra better:

Why did you choose Trinity?
I didn’t have any preference on where I wanted to go to college. My friend was being recruited by Coach Lenarz and she really liked it and said that I would too. I decided to visit and loved the campus and how close it was to Chicago. It was really the team though that made me sure about my decision.

What is your favorite part about Trinity?
I really like how everyone knows each other, and everyone is super friendly around campus.

What is your favorite athletics memory as a Troll?
My favorite memory is going to nationals in Florida with my team and being with everyone for a whole week.

What do you plan on doing after graduation?
I plan on teaching either English or History overseas after graduation.

What is your favorite pre-game meal?
My favorite pre-game meal is a single banana because I get nervous that if I eat too much it will slow me down. (But that might be a tad psychological.)

What is your favorite sport besides soccer?
My favorite sport to watch is basketball, but my favorite sport to play, other than soccer, is volleyball.
