Trinity Stung By St. Ambrose

In the final road game of the season the Trolls travelled to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose University, a team ranked fourth in the conference standings.  Trinity did not have the answer for the Fighting Bees who scored 44 points in the paint. At the end of the first quarter the team was down by 10 and at the half the difference was 17 at 38-21. Trinity had a strong third quarter and was only outscored by four points in the entire second half. In the end the final was a 75-54 loss.

The Trolls started out strong and five minutes into the game they were within two points at 10-8. Over the next four minutes the Trolls did not score and the Fighting Bees added 10 points to take a 12 point lead. Trinity got one more basket before the end of the quarter to make it 20-10 at the end of the period.

In the opening three minutes of the second quarter the Trolls cut the gap to six points, but again suffered a scoring drought and were out-scored 12-to-2 in a five minute stretch to fall behind by 20 points. At the half the difference was 17 at 38-21.
    
The third quarter was Trinity’s best as they doubled their half-time score. The team gradually gained ground throughout the period and with four minutes left they were within 11 points at 50-39. That difference was as close as the Trolls got and by the end of the quarter the gap was 15 at 57-42.  

The Trolls were out-scored 14-to-1 in the first four minutes of the second period to fall behind by 28 points. The scoring difference remained over 20 points for the rest of the game until the final 21 point difference.

The Trolls shot .358 from the floor, .240 percent from the three-point line, and .714 percent from the free throw line. St. Ambrose was .458 percent from the field, .375 percent from the arc, and .600 percent from the line. The Trolls had 29 rebounds and the Bees had 44. Breanna Toppen led the team with 23 points. Aubrey Goorman ended with a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Brenna Groenewold had three assists.

Trinity will play in their final game of the season at home on February 16 against Roosevelt University at 1 pm.
