Trolls Fall to Tigers

In their third game of the week the Trolls hosted Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois) in a conference game.  Trinity struggled with the pressure and the pace dictated by the Tigers and trailed from start to finish. The team was down by 40 at the half and finished the game in a 70 point loss at 109-39.

The trapping full-court defense created some issues for the Trolls in the first half as they were plagued with turnovers. In the first half Trinity attempted only 17 shots while the Tigers made 22 baskets.  Midway through the first period the scoring difference hit double digits and by the end of the quarter the gap was 16 at 27-11.

The Trolls did not score for the first five minutes of the second period and trailed 45-11 at that point. The deficit increased by the half to 40 points at 58-18.

It did not get better for the Trolls in the third period as they added only two more points. They were behind by 50 before they made their first basket of the second half. The third quarter ended with an 81-20 score.

Trinity scored their most points in the final quarter in which they added 19. However Olivet Nazarene shot .500 percent in that period to increased their lead to as much as 77 points. By the end of the game the difference was 70.

For the game Trinity shot .333 percent from the field (15-of-45), .227 percent from the arc, and .667 percent from the line. Olivet Nazarene was .438 percent from the floor (42-of-96), .333 percent from the arc (17-of-51), and .471 percent from the line. The Trolls had 35 rebounds and the Tigers had 54. Breanna Toppen led the team with 10 points. Alexis Knake had seven points and nine rebounds. Aubrey Goorman ended the game with five blocks.

The Trolls compete next on February 13 at St. Ambrose University at 5:30 pm.
