Trinity Defeated by No. 15 St. Francis

In their second game of the week the Trolls play at No. 15 University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois). The team was within five points at the end of the first quarter, but lost ground in each following quarter to end in a 30 point loss. At the half the difference was 16 at 37-21. Trinity was outscored by 14 points in the second half for the 74-44 final.

The Trolls fell into an 8-0 deficit in the opening minutes, but behind three treys by Breanna Toppen they went on a 9-to-2 run to pull to within one. With 1:30 to play Trinity had tied the score at 11-11. St. Francis closed out with final five points of the period to take a 16-11 lead.

St. Francis scored the first five points of the second period to increase the scoring gap to double digits. Twice in the period Trinity got the deficit back to single digits, but a 7-to-0 run by St. Francis in the final three minutes put the Trolls in a 16 point deficit, 37-21, at the half.

In the third period the Trolls were out-scored by five points to fall behind by 21. Trinity added just eight points in the fourth quarter while St. Francis added 17 to make the final difference 30.

For the game the Trolls were .349 percent from the field, .462 percent from the arc, and .889 percent from the line. St. Francis shot .518 percent from the floor, .348 percent from the three-point line, and .800 percent from the free throw line. Trinity had 24 rebounds and St. Francis had 32. Breanna Toppen led the team with 20 points and six rebounds. She also had three assists as did Alexis Knake.

The team will play at home on February 9 against Olivet Nazarene University at 1 pm.
