Trinity Loses to Holy Cross

A conference game ended in a loss for the Trolls as they hosted Holy Cross College (Notre Dame, Indiana) in the final game of the first round of the CCAC schedule.  Trinity never held the lead and the game got out-of-hand early for the Trolls. At the half the team was down 48-17 and in the end they took an 81-39 loss.

A 15-0 run by Holy Cross in the opening four minutes of the game set the tone for the remainder of the contest. The Trolls scored only six points in the first period while the Saints shot .611 percent overall and hit six three-pointers in the period to score 30.

The scoring gap extended to 30 points midway through the second quarter and at the half the difference was 31 at 48-17.

The game did not get any better for the Trolls in the third period as Holy Cross doubled the amount of points Trinity scored. By the end of the quarter Trinity was down by 40.  The gap got as wide as 51 points in the final period until the Trolls scored the final eight points of the game to make it 81-39.

Trinity was .271 percent from the floor, .125 percent from the arc, and .846 percent from the line. Holy Cross ended at .478 percent overall, .480 percent (12-of-25) from the three-point line, and 1.000 percent from the free throw line. The Trolls took in 20 rebounds and the Saints had 51. Breanna Toppen led the team with 14 points while Alyssa Mulligan had nine. Alexis Knake and Olivia Schuringa each had four rebounds.

The team continues conference play on January 26 at Governors State University at 1 pm.
