Trolls Defeated by Trojans

Coming off their first conference win, the Trolls could not make it two in a row as they played at Trinity International University (Deerfield, Illinois). After a tight first quarter, the Trolls faltered in the second period and were down 44-29 at the half. The team continued to lost ground in the third period and, despite a run in the fourth quarter, they lost with a 76-60.

Five minutes into the game the Trolls had only four points and were down by seven at 11-4. Over the next four minutes they scored 10 points and trailed by only one. By the end of the period the difference was still one at 17-16.

The Trolls took the lead three minutes into the second quarter, but then did not score for a three minute stretch to fall behind by 12 points. They stayed in a double digit deficit in the remaining minutes of the half and were down by 15, 44-29, at the half.

In the third period the Trolls were out-scored by five points to fall behind by 20 at the end of the quarter. Trinity cut that deficit in half in the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter to close to 70-60. However they did not score again in the game and ended in the 16 point loss.

The Trolls were .383 percent from the field, .125 percent from the arc, and .857 percent from the line. The Trojans were .429 percent from the floor, .318 percent from the three-point line, and .643 percent from the charity stripe.  Trinity Christian ended the game with 35 rebounds and Trinity International had 44.  Breanna Toppen led the scoring with 29 points and Aubrey Goorman had 10. Alyssa Mulligan had eight rebounds and Alexis Knake had seven. Brenna Groenewold finished the game with five assists.  

Trinity will play next on January 23 in a home contest with Holy Cross College at 5:30 pm
