Trolls Find Win Column

The drought is over for the Trolls with a win to put an end to their losing streak. The victory came in a conference game at Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Indiana) with a 66-49 final.  The Trolls took the early lead and held it throughout the rest of the game. At the half they were ahead by nine points at 33-24. Calumet-St. Joseph gained a little ground in the third quarter, but the Trolls limited them in the final quarter to take the 66-49 win. With the win the team is 3-17 overall and 1-10 in the CCAC.

Three minutes into the first quarter the Trolls took the lead and they never gave it up. By the end of the first quarter the lead was five points at 16-11. The Crimson Wave tied the score twice in the second quarter, but the Troll used a 14-to-4 run to go ahead by ten points. At the half the difference was nine at points at 33-24.

In the third period Calumet-St. Joseph closed to within six points until the Trolls built their lead to 11 points. By the end of the quarter Calumet-St. Joseph had the gap to seven points at 51-44. The Trolls held the Crimson Wave to five points in the final quarter while adding 15 of their won points to pull away and secure the victory.   

The Trolls shot .383 percent from the field, .364 percent from the arc, and .800 percent from the line. Calumet-St. Joseph was .259 percent from the floor, .095 percent from the three-point line, and .500 percent from the line. Trinity had 37 rebounds and the Crimson Wave had 54.  The Trolls were led by Breanna Toppen who was 6-of-12 from the three-point line and ended with 28 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Alexis Knake added 10 points and Alyssa Mulligan had eight points as well as 12 rebounds.

The Trolls play next on January 23 at home against Holy Cross College at 5:30 pm.
