Trolls Fall to Titans

The Trolls took on conference opponent Indiana University-South Bend at the half-way point of the CCAC schedule. Scoring single digits in the first two quarters Trinity fell behind 32-16 at the half. The team lost more ground in the third period before holding their own in the final quarter. In the end Trinity lost 66-44 to fall to 2-17 overall and 0-10 in the CCAC.

The game started with an 11-to-2 run by IU-South Bend to put the Trolls in a deficit. Through the next 35 minutes the Trolls never gained the lead. By the end of the first quarter they had scored nine points and the Titans had 20.

Over the second period Trinity gained only seven more points and by the half the Titans had doubled the Trolls’ score at 32-16.

A 7-to-0 run by IU-South Bend at the start of the third period created a 23 point gap. It was that difference that remained at the end of the period with a 54-31 score.  In the final period the Trolls out-scored the Titans by one point to end the game with the 22 point loss.

Trinity was .381 percent from the field, .263 percent from the arc, and .875 percent from the line. The Titans shot .369 percent from the field, hit twice as many three-pointers as Trinity with 10 at .385 percent, and sunk .727 percent from the line. Trinity had 34 rebounds and IU-South Bend had 36. The Trolls were led in scoring by Brenna Toppen with 18 points while Alyssa Mulligan led the rebounding with 11.

The team plays next on January 16 in a conference game at Calumet College of St. Joseph at 5 pm.
