Trinity Downed by Saint Xavier

In a conference game the Trolls played at Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois). The Cougars proved why they are ranked No. 18 in the nation as they took control of the game early. With only four points in the first period, Trinity created a deficit that was too difficult to overcome. By the half they were down by 31 points at 48-17. Trinity lost more ground in the second half and ended in the 101-55 loss. The team is now 2-16 overall and 0-9 in the CCAC.

It was nearly six minutes into the game before the Trolls scored their first basket. By that time Saint Xavier had a 14 point lead. Trinity scored only two more points in the period and ended the first quarter in a 21 point deficit at 25-4. The scoring gap increased to 31 points by the half at 48-17.

The Trolls more than doubled their first half score in the third quarter as they added 20 points. However the Cougars still outscored the Trolls with 30 points in the period to increase their lead to 41 points.  The difference continued to grow in the final period and in the final minute the Cougars hit the century mark.

For the game the Trolls shot .276 percent from the field, .318 percent from the three-point line, and .800 percent from the free throw line.  Saint Xavier was .506 percent from the field, .406 percent from the arc, and .714 percent from the line. The Trolls had 34 rebounds and the Cougars had 50 rebounds.Breanna Toppen led the team with 15 points while Aubrey Goorman had 10. Goorman also led the rebounding with eight while Kyla Pitts has seven.

Trinity plays next on January 12 at home in a 1 pm game with Indiana University-South Bend.
