Trolls Battle with Eagles

The conference schedule picked up again as the Trolls hosted Judson University (Elgin, Illinois).  Each team had their share of the lead and a double digit advantage. Judson was ahead at the end of the first quarter, but the Trolls took 38-33 lead into the break. Trinity extended their lead in the third period, but allowed Judson back into the game.  The Trolls trailed by three at the end of the quarter and never got the lead back in the final period for a 69-63 loss. Trinity falls to 2-15 overall and 0-8 in the CCAC.

The Trolls scored only seven points in the opening six minutes of the game and by that time they were down by 12 points.  Before the quarter was over they cut the gap to two with two minutes left to play. They did not score again in the period and at the end of the first 10 minute segment they were down at 26-19.

Trinity used the long range shot, from which they shot .615 percent in the first half, to take over the lead.  Behind treys by Val Guzman and Kyla Pitts, the team made up the scoring difference and took over the lead four minutes into the second period. While the score remained tight, Trinity held Judson to seven points in the quarter and at the half the Trolls were ahead by five at 38-33.

The Trolls came out hot at the beginning of the second period within four minutes had established a 13 point lead at 48-35. However, the team did not score again in the period and they saw their lead dwindle away. By the end of the quarter Judson was back on top at 51-48.

Judson continued to hold the top spot on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with a lead that varied from seven points to one point.  On a three-pointer by Guzman with 1:30 to play the Trolls were within three. However Judson answered with a trey to make it a six point difference again. Trinity scored one more time, but the Eagles also gained two points for the 69-63 final.

For the game Trinity ended with a .429 field goal percentage, a .435 three point percentage, and a .625 free throw percentage. Judson was .403 percent from the field, .368 percent from the arc, and .632 percent from the line. The Trolls had 30 rebounds and Judson had 45. Pitts led the team with 28 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Alexis Knake and Guzman each had 11 points. Knake also added seven boards. Breanna Toppen led the team with four assists.
