Trolls Defeated by Thunder

It was a tale of two halves as the Trolls hosted Wheaton College (Wheaton, Illinois) in a non-conference game. The teams battle back and forth in the first half and at the intermission they were tied at 35-35. The Trolls could not sustain their play in the second half and by the end of the game they lost by a deficit of 26 points at 79-53. The team falls to 2-10 overall.

In the first quarter of the game the lead changed hands five times and the widest margin of difference was five points. The Trolls went on a 7-to-0 scoring run in the final three minutes of the period to take a 19-15 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Trolls controlled the first five minutes of the second period and built a ten point lead at 33-23. However they scored only two more points in the remaining five minutes and at the half Wheaton had tied the game at 35-35.

The game started to unravel in the third period when Wheaton went on a 12-to-1 run in the opening six minutes of the third quarter to create a double-digit scoring gap. The Trolls fall behind by as many as 12 before closing to eight by the end of the period.

That eight point difference was a close as Trinity got as Wheaton quickly went ahead by double digits again in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Trailing 62-50 the Trolls did not score for a five minute stretch and by that time they were down by 22 points.  With only seven points in the final period Trinity ended in the 26 point loss.

Trinity ended the game with a .314 field goal percentage, a .348 three-point percentage, and a .722 free throw percentage. Wheaton shot .423 percent from the field, .190 percent from the arc, and .789 percent from the line. The Trolls had 34 rebounds and Wheaton had 46. Kyla Pitts led the team with 13 points. She also had four rebounds and four steals. Breanna Toppen had 12 points and Aubrey Goorman was the top rebounder with seven.

The Trolls return to conference action on December 15 in a game at Roosevelt University at 1 pm.
