Trinity Struggles In Conference Opener

The CCAC schedule started for the Trolls with a home contest against Governors State University (University Park, Illinois).  After a tight first quarter, Trinity struggle to score and by the half were down by nine points. The team only added 15 more points in the game while Governors State pulled away for the 73-41 final. The Trolls have lost their last four games and are 2-4 overall.

Governors State led in the game from start to finish. During the first quarter their lead was never more than six points and at the end of the period it was down to one at 14-13.

Four minutes into the second quarter Trinity had added only three more points and trailed by five. The gap increased to nine points with four minutes left in the period. With Trinity scoring only two points in the final three minutes they were entered the intermission down 35-26.

Governors State scored the first basket of the second half to increase their lead by double digits.  The scoring came slowly for Trinity and the scoring margin increased as the period progressed. Again the Trolls failed to score in the final two minutes and by the end of the quarter they were down by 22 points at 56-34.

The final quarter was much the same as Trinity added only seven points and was out-scored by 10 in the 10 minute period.

The Trolls host .276 percent from the floor, .200 percent from the arc, and .625 percent from the line. Governors State was .460 percent from the field, .364 percent from the three-point line, and .846 percent from the free throw line. Trinity took in 28 rebounds and the Jaguars had 51.  Breanna Toppen and Val Guzman led the team with 10 points each. Guzman had four rebounds as did Alexis Knake.

The team will play at home on November 17 against Robert Morris University at 1 pm.
