Women’s Basketball Season Set to Start

The 2018-19 women’s basketball team is ready to begin their season under third year head coach Bill DeRuiter. The Trolls have been on the hardwood preparing for competition and will open their 30-game schedule at home in the DeVos Gymnasium on October 24 against Cornerstone University at 7:30 pm.

The Trolls, who enter the season with five returning players on their 14-player roster, start their schedule with five non-conference games, of which three are at home, before beginning in their CCAC play. One of those opening games will be on Fall Fest Weekend on November 3 at 1 pm against Mount Vernon Nazarene University, who is coached by Trinity alumnus Amanda (Learned) Short ’09.  In those early games the Trolls will also face Lincoln College (Illinois) in a first-ever match-up, Taylor University (Upland, Indiana), and Clarke University (Dubuque, Iowa).

Non-conference action in December includes a home contest with Wheaton College on the 12th and a couple of trips. The Trolls travel to Florida on December 17-19 for a game with Florida College and two exhibition contests with Rollins College and Southeastern University. At the end of the month they make a trek to Iowa where they will play Northwestern College (Orange City) on the 28th and Dordt College (Sioux Center) on the 29th.  The final non-CCAC game is on January 2 at home against Indiana University-Northwest.

Trinity has a 20-game conference schedule in which they face seven of the 13 CCAC opponents twice and six teams once. The Trolls open league play on November 14 at home against Governors State University at 5:30 pm. They have seven conference games in the first semester with home contests on November 14, 17, 28 and December 8.  The CCAC schedule starts again on January 5 and continues through to the third week of February. In those two months the team has six home contests, including games on five Saturdays. The regular season wraps up on February 16 and the CCAC Tournament runs from February 20-25.
