Trolls Down Eagles

The Trolls made it four wins in a row and continue to climb up in the conference standings with a good win over Robert Morris University-Illinois (Chicago, Illinois).  Trinity came out ready to play and after taking the lead at end of the first quarter they kept it for the majority of the game. At the half they held a 46-42 lead and at the end of the game they posted a 91-83 victory. The Trolls improve to 13-12 overall and move to fourth place in the CCAC standings at 9-6.

Although Robert Morris shot .586 percent in the first half, the Trolls were able to keep them in check and answer their fire power.   The teams battled back and forth in the first quarter with only a few points separating the teams. With two minutes to play Kelsie Foster nailed a three-pointer to give the Trolls a 21-19 lead that they held for the rest of the half. At the end of the quarter the lead was only one at 23-22.

Trinity outscored Robert Morris 14-to-4 in the first half of the second quarter to open their lead to 11 points. The Eagles rallied back and cut the difference to three points. By the half it was at four, 46-42.

Midway through the third period the Trolls saw their lead go away for a brief time. Down 58-55, they rallied off the next eight points to regain the top spot. Later in the period the gap was as wide as nine and at the end of the period it was eight at 73-65.

Trinity continued to stay on top in the fourth quarter and hold off any run the Eagles attempted. Midway through the period the lead was 11 points, but three minutes later Robert Morris had it to four at 84-80. With 1:11 to play the difference was three points, but Breanna Toppen, who was golden from the line, extended the lead to eight points.

The Trolls ended the game with a .429 field goal percentage, a .483 three-point percentage (14-of-29), and a .895 free throw percentage (17-of-19). Robert Morris shot .479 percent from the field, .200 percent from the arc, and .684 percent from the line. The Trolls had 36 rebounds to the Eagles’ 47. Toppen led the scoring with 26 points, connecting on 15-of-15 from the line, and the rebounding with 11. Katie Moran added 21 points and had three steals. Ally Giampapa had 18 points and led the team with six assists. Also in double-figure scoring was Foster with 11 points.
