Trolls Handle Jaguars

The Trolls make it a three wins in a row and five in their six outings with a victory over Governors State University (University Park, Illinois).  It was a high scoring game as Trinity topped the 100 point mark and scored at least 23 points in each of the four quarters. At the half the Trolls had a 52-36 lead and they ended with a 101-87 win. The team gets back to the .500 mark at 12-12 and they are 8-6 in the CCAC.

Trinity started strong and jumped to a 12-2 lead in the opening three minutes. The Jaguars cut the gap to three points three minutes later and with 1:44 to play they had tied the game at 22-22. The Trolls scored the final seven points of the quarter to take a 29-22 lead.

The Trolls continued to control the scoreboard in the second quarter and on a 12-to-4 run they created a 14 point lead with three minutes left in the period. By half-time the lead was 16, 52-36.

Trinity’s lead continued to increase in the second period as were accurate from the floor and the arc. In the period they were ahead by as many 25 before a 78-59 score at the end of the period.

With a sizable lead, the game was never in question in the fourth quarter. The Trolls were able to use a variety of players and keep their lead.

The Trolls were .535 percent accurate from the floor, .536 percent from the arc at 15-of-28, and .588 percent from the line. Governors State was .478 percent from the field, .167 percent from the three-point line, and .731 percent from the charity stripe. The Trolls had 32 rebounds to the Jaguars’ 46. Celina Wanta led the scoring with 35 points, connecting on 13-of-24 from the field and 7-of-10 from the line. She also had seven steals and six assists. Both Katie Moran and Breanna Toppen had 14 points, Ally Giampapa added 13, and Lauren Stokes had 10. Giampapa also added five assists and four steals. Moran was the high rebounder with 12.

The Trolls continue conference play on January 31 in a home game with Robert Morris University at 5:30 pm.
