Trolls Beat by Cougars

In their first home game of the new calendar year the Trolls hosted conference opponent Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois).  Trinity found the nationally ranked No. 4 Cougars too tough to contain and ended in a 31 point loss. The Trolls trailed from the first basket, were down 55-30 at the half, and lost 91-60. The team is now 7-11 for the season and 3-6 in the CCAC.

Saint Xavier was on mark in the first half of the game as they shot .553 percent from the floor and connected on 11-of-22 three-pointers. Three of those treys came in the opening three minutes to give the Cougars a 15-8 lead. The Trolls scored the next bucket then went dry for four minutes to fall behind 24-10. At the end of the first quarter the deficit was ten at 29-19.

In the first six minutes of the second period the Trolls were out-scored 19-to-4 to fall into a 25 point deficit. It was that difference that held at the half, 55-30.

While the shooting for Saint Xavier cooled down in the second half, the Trolls did not gain ground. The Cougars out-scored the Trolls by 10 points in the third quarter to make it a 35 point difference.  Throughout the fourth quarter the gap remained significant to the 91-60 final.

The Trolls ended the game with a .268 field goal percentage, a .211 three-point percentage and a .900 free throw percentage at 18-of-20. Saint Xavier was .481 percent from the floor, .394 percent from the arc, and .800 percent from the line. Trinity had 40 rebounds and the Cougars had 54. Ally Giampapa and Lauren Stokes each had 11 points for the Trolls and Jessica Bianchi had 10 points, of which eight come from the line. Celina Wanta led the team with eight rebounds and three assists.
