Trolls Snag Overtime Win

The Trolls got back into the win column in an exciting overtime buzzer beater at Ohio Christian University (Circleville, Ohio). The victory came after a short break for the Christmas holiday and puts the team back in the win column after six recent losses. Trinity led at the half, lost the top spot in the second half, but was the last team to score in the regulation to tie the game at 72-72. After falling behind in the overtime period, the Trolls hit a shot at the buzzer to take the 87-85 win. The team is now 6-9 for the season.

In the first period, no more than three points separated the teams at any one time. By the end of the ten minutes the Trolls had an 18-16 advantage. Ohio Christian took over the lead in the second period and went ahead by as many as six points. However Trinity finished strong and at the half had a 42-36 lead.

The Trolls were strong in the first part of the third period and held a 51-42 lead. However they did not score for the rest of the period.  Ohio Christian went on a 15-to-0 run in those final minutes and took over the lead at 57-51.  

Trinity tied the score at 59-59 at 6:10 in the fourth period. The Trailblazers went back on top and with less than a minute to play had a 72-70 lead. With 30 seconds left, Lauren Stokes nailed two free throws to tie the game. Ohio Christian had the final look, but did not get their attempt to fall and the game moved to overtime.

The Trolls trailed through a majority of the overtime period and were down by as many as five points. A three-point by Ally Giampapa with a minute to play tied the game at 83-83. Kelsie Foster followed with two free throws to give the Trolls the 85-83 lead. With 20 seconds left Ohio Dominican tied the game at 85-85. Trinity had the final possession and Stokes hit the shot as time expired to give the Trolls the win.

Trinity shot .431 percent from the field, .440 percent from the arc, and .824 percent from the line. Ohio Dominican was .419 percent from the floor, .382 percent from the three-point line, and .588 percent from the free throw line. The Trolls had 37 rebounds and the Trailblazers had 41. Giampapa led the team with 34 points, connecting on 8-of-16 three-pointers. She also had 11 rebounds and six steals. Breanna Toppen added 16 points and Celina Wanta had 10. Katie Moran recorded 10 rebounds and four assists.

The team plays in Ohio again on December 30 in a 2 pm EST game at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
