Trolls Hold Off Eagles

The Trolls picked up their second conference win of the season in a game at Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois). The team led through most of the first half and by the intermission they had a three point lead at 41-38. The scoring difference went up and down in the second half, but in the end it was that three points that held with a 77-74 win. The Trolls are now 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the CCAC.

In the early part of the game the Trolls and the Eagles were tied at 9-9 until Trinity went on an 8-to-0 run to take the lead which they continued to hold through the rest of the half. At the end of the first quarter they were ahead by five at 27-22.

Three minutes into the second quarter Breanna Toppen hit a three-pointer to give the Trolls their largest lead at 37-27. They did not score for the next three minutes and the Eagles were back to within three. The Trolls held Robert Morris off and at the half they were ahead by three.

With 7:29 to play in the third quarter Robert Morris briefly took the lead, but Trinity answered to go back on top.  Robert Morris tied the score at 50-50 with four minutes left only to have the Trolls score the next eight points to take control. At the end of the 10 minute period they held a 61-56 advantage.

In the fourth quarter Robert Morris cut the lead to one point three different times. Each time the Trolls held the Eagles off and with 3:47 left they extended the gap to eight points at 76-68. Trinity scored only one more point in the game, but was able to contain the Eagles.

For the game Trinity shot .462 percent from the field and .444 percent from the arc. Robert Morris was .453 percent from the floor and .263 percent from the three point line. The Trolls were out-rebounded 43 to 29, but they forced the Eagles into 22 turnovers. Ally Giampapa scored 22 points and had six rebounds to pace the team. Lauren Stokes has 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Toppen added 18 points and Kelsie Foster had 11. Celina Wanta aided the team with four rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

The Trolls continue conference action on November 21 in a home contest with Cardinal Stritch University at 5:30 pm.
