Trolls Lose to Bethel

In a tight battle the Trolls played a non-conference game at Bethel College (Mishawaka, Indiana). Each team had their turn at the lead. Bethel won the first quarter and Trinity took the second one for a 32-30 half-time lead. The teams were deadlocked after the third quarter, but in the end the Trolls were out-scored in the final 10 minutes and fell 62-56. The Trolls are now 1-3 for the season.

The first quarter of the game was tied four times before Bethel took an 18-14 lead at the end of the period. The Pilots scored first in the second quarter to go ahead by seven, but the Trolls rallied with an eight point run to take briefly take the top spot. The Pilots held the Trolls for the next three minutes and regain the lead and at the intermission Bethel was ahead by two.

The Trolls started the third quarter with eight unanswered points to take the lead. However they did not score in the final two minutes and Bethel tied the game at 44-44 at the end of the quarter.

The Pilots increased their lead to eight points midway through the fourth quarter at 54-46. The Trolls fought back and, on a couple of jumpers by Celina Wanta, they were within two at 56-54 with 1:30 to play. The Trolls were still in a two point deficit, 58-56, with 20 seconds left. Bethel went 4-for-4 from the line in the final seconds while the Trolls’ shot attempt missed the mark.

Trinity shot .375 percent from the field and Bethel hit .489 percent of their shots. The Trolls were 4-of-6 from the line, but Bethel scored 11 more points than Trinity from the charity stripe at 15-of-18. The Trolls lost the rebounding battle at 42 boards to 22. They forced the Pilots into 27 turnovers. Celina Wanta led the team with 16 points and six rebounds. Katie Moran had 12 points, five steals, and three assists. Ally Giampapa was also in double figure scoring with 10 points to go along with four assists.

The Trolls play next on November 11 at Waldorf University at 4 pm.
