Trolls Fall to Clarke

In their second game of the season the Trolls hosted Clarke University (Dubuque, Iowa). Trinity led throughout the entire first half and at the break had a 44-38 lead. The third quarter changed the game as Trinity saw their lead slip away and the scoring gap continued to grow through the remainder of the game.  In the end the Trolls lost 89-72 and are now 1-1 for the season.

Both teams shot well in the first half of the game and attacked the basket. Trinity scored first and stayed on the top of the scoreboard. With three minutes to play in the first quarter the Trolls had increased their lead to 10 points and were ahead 26-17 after the period.

The Trolls keep the lead throughout the second period, although the Pride cut it to four points late in the period. By the half Trinity’s lead was six at 44-38.

The first nine points of the third quarter belonged to Clarke and the Pride took the lead for the first time at 47-44. Midway through the period the teams were tied at 53-53, but Clarke scored the next 11 points. By the end of the period the Trolls trailed by 12, 70-58.

Trinity did good work at cutting in to the deficit and had the gap back to five half-way through the final quarter. However they could not erase the gap and Clarke finished strong for the 17 difference at the buzzer.

Trinity ended with a .474 field goal percentage, but Clarke shot .547 percent. The Trolls were also out-rebounded by 20 boards. They did collect 22 steals and had a total of 15 assists. Ally Giampapa was the high scorer for the team with 18 points. Lauren Stokes had 15 points, five assists, and eight steals. Celina Wanta registered 14 points and four steals, Breanna Toppen had 12 points and four steals, and Katie Moran led the rebounding with eight.

The Trolls play next on November 4 in a 1 pm home game against Rochester College.
