Season Ends in Greenville

For the first time in the past ten seasons the Trolls advanced to the NCCAA North Central Region Tournament. In a semifinal game Trinity, the No. 4 seed, faced the top seeded Greenville College (Greenville, Illinois) on the Panther’s home court.  It was a slow scoring night for the Trolls who lost ground each quarter of play and ended in a 64-42 loss. The defeat ends the team’s season with a 16-16 overall record.

The Trolls did not score in the first three minutes of the game and fell into a 10 point deficit. They fought back and erased the difference to two points with 1:24 left in the quarter. The gap grew back to eight points, but Trinity scored the final four points to make it 20-16 at the end of period one.

Trinity scored the first basket of the second quarter, but gave up too many second attempts which allowed Greenville to rally off 10 straight points. Scoring only six points in the quarter, the Trolls trailed by 10, 32-22, at the half.

In the third period the Trolls again scored less than 10 points and lost more ground. The scoring difference stayed in double digits and by the end of the 10 minute period they were down by 20.

The team cut the difference to 15 points in the fourth quarter, but that was a close as they got. With 2:11 to play they trailed 64-42 and that score held until the final buzzer.

Trinity shot .228 percent from the field, .136 percent from the arc, and .750 percent from the line. Greenville was .481 percent from the floor, .235 percent from the three-point line, and .667 percent from the charity stripe. The Trolls forced the Panthers into 26 turnovers, but were out-rebounded by 17. Lauren Stokes led the team with 13 points and eight steals. Celina Wanta added nine points.
