Trolls Eliminated by No. 3 Saint Xavier
In the quarterfinal round of the CCAC Tournament, the Trolls faced a formidable foe in the Cougars of Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois). Trinity, the No. 7 seed, trailed from the first basket against the second place conference finisher and nationally No. 3 Saint Xavier. At the half the Trolls were down 57-23 and at the game’s end they lost 100-52. With the loss the Trolls are eliminated from the tournament.
The Trolls scored six points in the first five minutes of the opening period and then did not score again in the remaining five minutes. By the end of the period they were down 31-6.
Trinity made up some ground in the beginning of the second period, but the Cougars stormed back to take a commanding lead. By the half the Trolls were down by 34 points.
In the third quarter the gap grew to as many as 46 points. Trinity cut the gap to 36 and only scored two less points than the Cougars in the period. While the Trolls continued to fight in the final quarter they were not able to make a dent in the final results.
For the game the Trolls shot .231 percent from the floor, only .172 percent from the arc, and .786 percent from the line. Saint Xavier was 21-of-30 (.700) in the first half and ended with a .603 field goal percentage. They were .643 percent from the three-point line and .724 percent from the free-throw line. Trinity had 38 rebounds and Saint Xavier had 47. Celina Wanta led the Trolls with 16 points and six rebounds. Lauren Stokes scored seven points and collected nine rebounds.
The Trolls will now play in the NCCAA Region Tournament with details yet to be determined.
