Trolls Tame Jaguars

The Trolls get their second conference win of the week with a 79-70 victory at Governors State University (University Park, Illinois). It was a close battle through the first three periods, but Trinity took over in the fourth quarter to secure the win. With this result the team has won three of their last four contests and improve to 15-13 overall and 8-11 in the CCAC.

The lead seesawed back and forth during the first quarter of the game and the teams were only separated by a bucket or two during the 10 minute period.  At the end of the period Trinity had a 16-15 edge.

The Trolls scored the first four points of the second period to increase their lead to five and that is where they had it midway through the quarter. Governors State came back to tie the score with less than a minute left and  on a bucket in the final second the Jaguars went up 33-31 at the half.

Trinity quickly recovered the lead in the third period and held the Jaguars off. On a three-pointer by Celina Wanta in the final minute of the quarter the Trolls built a 54-47 lead that held at the end of the period.

The Trolls started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run that opened the game to a double-digit lead. From there they commanded the game and maintained the sizable gap. It was until the final minute of the game that the Jaguars cut the difference to a single digit.

For the game the Trolls shot .424 percent from the field, .286 percent from the three-point line, and .708 percent from the free throw line. The Jaguars were .400 percent from the floor, .174 percent from the arc, and .636 percent from the line. Governors State won the rebounding battle with 50 rebounds to Trinity’s 33. The Trolls forced the Jaguars into 25 turnovers.  Wanta and Breanna Toppen each had 20 points while Lauren Stokes added 16 and Kelsie Foster had 13. Foster led the rebounding with eight and Wanta had six. Bethany Jansma handed out four assists.

The Trolls enter their final week of the regular season with a game at Purdue University-Northwest on February 15 at 5 pm.
