Trinity Takes Care of Holy Cross

As the regular season is in its final stages, the Trolls got a needed win in a conference game with Holy Cross College (Notre Dame, Indiana). Trinity took over the game from the start and had a 20 point lead at the half. The Trolls maintained their sizable advantage throughout the second half and ended with a 78-50 win. The team improves to 14-13 overall and is 7-11 in the CCAC.

Riding 20 first half points from Celina Wanta, the Trolls established the lead from the beginning. Midway through the first quarter they created a double-digit gap and by the end of the period they were ahead at 27-16.

Trinity continued to roll in the second quarter and doubled the Saints’ point production in those 10 minutes. The team held Holy Cross without a point in the final two minutes of the quarter to post a 45-25 half-time score.

The Trolls scored the first nine points of the second period to make the difference 29 points. By the end of the quarter that scoring gap remained.  Trinity went ahead by as many as 33 points in the final period before finishing out with the 28 point win.

For the game the Trolls shot .427 percent from the floor, .381 percent from the arc, and .857 percent from the line. Holy Cross was .327 percent from the field, .318 percent from the three-point line, and .636 percent from the charity stripe. The Trolls edged out the Saints on the boards at 42 to 41. Wanta ended the game with 24 points in 26 minutes of play. Kelsie Foster had 11 points and nine rebounds as well as three assists. Eight other players were in the scoring column.

The Trolls continue their conference play on February 11 at Governors State University at 1 pm.
