Trolls Edged Out by Eagles

In the DeVos Gymnasium the Trolls hosted CCAC North Division Judson University (Elgin, Illinois).  After a fast-paced, high- scoring first half Trinity had a one point lead at 40-39. The team gave up that top spot early in the third period and trailed through the majority of the rest of the game. They were behind by as many as 10 points in the final seconds, but closed the gap to four before time ran out and they ended with a 71-67 loss. The team is now 12-12 for the season and 5-10 in the CCAC.

In the opening five minutes of the game the score was tied four times as the points came quickly for both teams. Judson finished out the first quarter on an 11-to-4 run to take a 29-22 lead.

The Eagles continued to stay on top of the scoreboard until late in the second quarter when a lay-up by Jessica Bianchi gave the Trolls a 38-37 lead. Judson scored the next basket by Bianchi answered before the half to put Trinity up 40-39 at the intermission.

The scoring slowed down in the third period for both teams. However Judson managed six more than the Trolls and had a five-point lead after the third set of 10 minutes.  

The Eagles continued to lead by a handful of points in the fourth quarter and 23 seconds left had the gap to 10 points. The Trolls were still down by nine with 14 ticks left. A three-pointer by Lauren Stokes cut the lead to six and, after a pair of missed free throws by Judson, Bethany Jansma nailed a trey to put the Trolls within three with six seconds left.  Judson sunk one final free throw before time expired on the Trolls’ comeback.

For the game the Trolls shot .362 percent from the field, .318 percent from the arc, and .588 percent from the line. Judson was .429 percent from the floor, .308 percent from the three-point line, and .633 percent from the line. The Trolls had 33 rebounds and Judson had 50. Bianchi led the team with 17 points, six rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Celina Wanta ended the game with 14 points and Stokes had 12 to go along with her four assists. Jansma was the high rebounder with eight and she also collected five steals.
