Trinity Loses at Olivet Nazarene

The Trolls were looking to avenge their one-point overtime loss in their first round of CCAC play with Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois), but could not contain the No. 24 Tigers in the road game. Trinity had a strong start and limited Olivet Nazarene in the first half to trail by only seven at the half. The point spread grew in the second period and Trinity ended with a 98-89 loss. The loss ends a four game winning streak and gives the Trolls a 12-11 overall and 5-9 CCAC record.

Trinity commanded the start of the game with a 9-0 start with all the scoring coming from Kelsie Foster. The Trolls continued to limit the Tigers in the period and remained on the top of the scoreboard until the final seconds of the quarter when Olivet Nazarene hit two treys to gain take the 21-19 lead.

In the second period a 7-to-0 run by Olivet Nazarene created a nine point difference midway through the quarter. Shortly after that the Trolls went down by double digits, but cut the gap to seven, 44-37, at the half.

Through the third quarter Trinity trailed from anywhere from seven points to double digits. By the end of the 10-minute period they were down by 14. The difference grew to as many as 22 points in the fourth period, but the Trolls fought to the end to bring the final score a nine-point game.

The Trolls ended the game with a .378 field goal percentage, a .429 three-point percentage, and a .750 free throw percentage.  Olivet Nazarene was .416 percent from the floor, .314 percent from the arc, and .591 percent from the line. The Tigers took 35 three-pointers, but the Trolls held them 12 in the first half. Trinity lost the rebounding battle with 44 boards to the Tigers’ 53, however the Trolls picked up 20 offensive rebounds.  Kelsie Foster and Lauren Stokes each had 18 points and Celina Wanta had 16. Foster had nine rebounds and Wanta had six while Lauren has four assists.

The Trolls play next on January 28 at home against Judson University at 1 pm.
