Trolls Keep Bees Away

The Trolls continue to find the win column with a victory on the road at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa). The team took a commanding 20 point lead in the first half, but saw that margin greatly reduced in the second period. Trinity continued to stay on top and in the fourth quarter took control again for the 84-75 win. The team has won their last four contests and is 12-10 overall land 5-8 in the CCAC.

After a few early ties in the first quarter, the Trolls took the lead on the scoreboard midway through the period and did not relinquish it for the rest of the game.  At the end of the first 10 minutes Trinity was ahead at 18-15.

The Trolls out-scored the Fighting Bees 10-to-2 in the first three minutes of the second period to take an 11 point lead. St. Ambrose closed the gap to six points, but Trinity rallied off the next 14 points to go ahead by 20. In the remaining minutes of the period St. Ambrose slowed the Trolls down and cut the difference to 11, 43-32, at the intermission.

St. Ambrose threatened in the early minutes of the third quarter and pulled to within four points. The Trolls responded and were once again ahead by double-digits. The Fighting Bees continued to come at the Trolls and made it a five point game. By the end of the period Trinity had the advantage at 63-55.

Trinity scored the first basket of the fourth period to go ahead by 10 points. Gradually throughout the period they increased their lead and with less than three minutes left had the game in control with an 82-63 lead.  In those remaining minutes they added only two more points which allowed St. Ambrose to pull to within nine points by the game’s end.

The Trolls shot .485 percent from the field, .348 percent from the arc, and .800 percent from the line. St. Ambrose hit .458 percent of their field goal attempts, .313 percent of their three-point shots, and .640 percent of their free throws. Trinity had a total of 29 rebounds to St. Ambrose’s 40. The Trolls had four players in double-figure scoring with Celina Wanta with 21 points, Jessica Bianchi with 14, Lauren Stokes with 13, and Bethany Jansma with 12. Wanta was also the high rebounder with eight. Bianchi ended the game with four assists and six steals. Stokes had the game-high five assists.

The Trolls play again on January 25 at Olivet Nazarene University in a 5:30 pm game.
