Trinity Handles Maranatha Baptist

The Trolls posted a lopsided victory over Maranatha Baptist University (Watertown, Wisconsin) in non-conference contest.  Trinity jumped to a 30-12 start after the first quarter and by the half were ahead 46-25. The team gave up only 11 points in the final two quarters for the 80-36 victory. The win is the third in the row for the Trolls who improve to 11-10 for the season.

Trinity used their pressure defense to create some easy baskets in the first period as they sprinted to a 20-2 start. By the end of the quarter they still held the 18 point lead.

The team continued to be hot from the floor in the second period and built their lead. They shot .633 percent from the floor in the half and by the break were up by 21 points.

With everyone getting in the action in the final two periods the Trolls continued to pull away. Maranatha scored eight points in the third quarter which ended in a 63-33 scored. The Sabercats did not have a field goal in the final quarter and only gained three points on free throws. Trinity scored 17 in each of those two final quarters for the large-margin victory.

The Trolls ended with a .455 field goal percentage and a .786 three-point percentage.  Maranatha shot .260 percent from the floor and .450 percent from the line. Trinity collected 43 rebounds to the Sabercats’ 33. Kelsie Foster was the high scorer with 13 points and Lauren Stokes added 12. Jessica Bianchi had nine points and four assists. The team’s high rebounder was Molly Toepper with six.

Trinity returns to conference action on January 21 in a 1 pm game at St. Ambrose University.
