Trolls Clawed by Cougars

The Trolls once again had a tough conference challenge as the faced No. 3 Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois) on the road. The team stayed in touch with the Cougars early in the game, but by the half they were down by 20. Trinity continued to lose ground in the second half and ended with a 90-53 loss. The Trolls move to 5-6 overall and 1-5 in the CCAC.

In an early tie after two minutes of play, the Trolls were out-scored 10-to-0 over the next three minutes to fall behind at 14-4. For the rest of the quarter the scoring difference wavered around the double-digit gap and at the end of the period the score was 28-19 in favor of Saint Xavier.

Trinity was still within nine points early in the second quarter, but missed a number of shots and turned the ball over four times in the next five minutes to fall behind by 20 at 43-23. At the intermission that 20 point gap stood at 47-27.

Another scoring run by the Cougars in the third period created a 30 point difference midway through the third period.  The Trolls were down by 31 at the end of the quarter.  The fourth quarter was much of the same as Trinity could not gain ground and the final difference was 37.

Trinity ended the game with a .313 field goal percentage and a .643 free throw percentage. Saint Xavier hit .476 percent of their shots and .917 percent of their free throws. The Trolls out-rebounded the Cougars 46-to-41. Celina Wanta led the team with 10 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Stokes had nine points and eight rebounds.

The team will play next on December 14 at Andrews University at 7 pm EST.
