Trinity Handles Bethel

Playing in front of a Fall Fest home crowd, the Trolls made it three wins in a row at the start of their season. In a game with Bethel College (Mishawaka, Indiana), Trinity took a 32-37 half-time lead that they stretched to a 70-54 victory. It is the first win over the Pilots in the last 18 outings between these two programs.  With the victory the Trolls post a 3-0 record and match the total number of victories that had a year ago.

The Trolls jumped to the early lead with a 10-2 start in the opening five minutes. In that stretch they allowed Bethel only five shot attempts and made them turn the ball over four times.  By the end of the first quarter the lead was double digits at 18-7.

Trinity continued to stay ahead in the second quarter, but Bethel narrowed the gap. By the half-time the difference was five points at 32-27.

In the first five minutes of the second half gave the Trolls created an eight point cushion, but they were out-scored in the next five minutes to have their lead reduced to three at 43-40 at the end of the third quarter.  

The team took control of the game in the fourth quarter and went on a 13-to-4 run to create a 12 point-lead with five minutes to play. The Trolls maintained their double-digit lead and, by hitting 11-of-14 free throws in the final two minutes of the game, they came away with the 16-point win.

The Trolls ended the game with a .383 field goal percentage and a .800 free throw percentage. They took in 47 rebounds and Bethel had 44. Lauren Stokes led the scoring with 19 points. She also had eight rebounds. Celina Wanta ended with a double double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kelsey Foster added 15 points and eight rebounds and Breanna Toppen chipped in 11 points.

The Trolls play next on November 11 at Indiana University-Southeast at 5 pm.
