Trolls Participate in Grace Lancer Invitational

The Trolls battled the competition and the weather in the Grace College Lancer Invitational (Winona Lake, Indiana). The event, which took place in constant rain and chilly conditions, consisted of 10 teams and over 500 athletes. At the end of the meet the women’s team scored 45 points and took sixth place while the men’s team scored 51 points for seventh place. Individually the team picked up one more NCCAA national qualifier.

For the women team’s Olivia Hoekstra was a part of the team scoring in three events. She took second place in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.75. She was also a part of two relay races. The 4 x 100 meter relay team took fourth place at 52.29 and the 4 x 400 meter team place second at 4:26.29.

Madelyn Clausen was a part of that 4 x 1 team and she also scored individually in the high jump. With a height of 5-02.5, she finished in second place in that field event.

Carissa Wisse was a member of both the scoring 4 x 1 and the 4 x 4 relay teams. Allie Boss ran a leg of the 4 x 4 and was also on the 4 x 800 meter relay team that finished in third place with a time of 10:24.66. Also scoring in two events was Alexis VanRyn as a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team and with a seventh place in the long jump with a distance of 13-07.5. Sarah DeVries finished in fifth in the long when she posted a jump of 13-11.75.

Also scoring in the field events was Taylor Yanke was a third place finish in the javelin. For the second week in a row she reached NCCAA qualifying standards in the javelin. Her throw this week was 101-08.

The men’s team had two first place finishes. Nick Heidinger won the 3000 meter steeplechase. With this time of 9:54.01 he also became a NCCAAA national qualifier. The team had three other individuals place in that event with Ryan Mathes in third, Nathan Krygsheld in fourth, and Cole Akimoff in sixth.

The other first place winner was Caleb DeWeerd when he out-distanced the filed in the 1500 meter. He crossed the line with a time of 3:58.32. DeWeerd also was a part of second place finish on the 4 x 400 meter relay team.  He teamed up with Jurrone Petry, Andrew Miller, and Andrew Dobrescu for a 3:31.11.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of John Kennedy, Miller, Kyle VanderPlaats, and Jose Beltran finished in third place with an 8:44.67. Other points for the team came in the javelin where Brantley Van Overloop took seventh place with a throw of 124-08.  

The Trolls will compete next in the CCAC Championships in Joliet, Illinois on May 3-4.
