Trolls Participate in Lewis Twilight

The Trolls participated in the mid-week Lewis University Twilight Meet in Romeoville, Illinois. Team scores were not calculated, but the Trolls had a good opportunity to compete against new competitors. Overall the teams added three new NCCAA qualifiers and had five top five finishes.

For the women’s team Taylor Yanke hit the NCCAA qualifying standard in the javelin with a personal best throw. She recorded a distance of 95-01 and took eighth place. Also with a NCCAA qualifying mark was Megan DeWeerd in the 1500 meter. She took fourth with a time of 4:56.10.  Also placing in that race was Allie Boss in eighth place at 5:02.23.

Olivia Hoekstra, who has already qualified in the 400 meter, hit the mark again with a 1:00.31. She took third place.  Madelyn Clausen posted another fine performance in the high jump. She jumped 5-04.50 and took second place.

The men’s team made a strong showing in the 1500 meter. Caleb DeWeerd won the race and at 3:59.71 qualified for the NCCAA national meet. Andrew Dobrescu took eighth place at 4:10.57 and Brantley VanOverloop was tenth at 4:13.41.

VanOverloop also claimed his own first place finish when he outran the field in the 3000 meter with a time of 9:08.40. Kyle VanderPlaats was eighth in that race.

In the field events Ross Barz grabbed a couple of tenth place finishes in the shot put and hammer throw.

The teams will compete next on April 27 at Grace College.
