Trolls Begin Outdoor Season in Alabama

The outdoor track and field season began for the Trolls at Birmingham-Southern University (Birmingham, Alabama) during a spring break trip. The partial team competed in the two day Southern Invitational that consisted of 18 teams from NCAA I, II, III, and NAIA divisions. Over all the women’s team scored 10 points and finished in 14th place and the men scored one point for 16th point. The women also had two NCCAA national qualifiers.

Leading the scoring for the women was Madelyn Clausen who won the high jump with her personal outdoor best. She cleared a height of 5-03.25 to win the event and also to become the team’s first NCCAA national qualifier.

The team’s other NCCAA national qualifier was Olivia Hoekstra in the 400 meter. In the event she clocked a time of 1:06.53 and took 13th in the meet.

The point for the men’s team was scored in the 4 x 100 meter relay that took 8th place. The foursome of Colin Stravers, Jim Bruinius, Jurrone Petry, and Nathan Krygsheld posted a time of 48.52. Another notable performance for the men was run by Andrew Dobrescu in the 5000 meter in which he finished in ninth place.

The team’s next outdoor meet is April 6 at Benedictine University.
