Caleb DeWeerd and Madelyn Clausen to Compete at NAIA Nationals

Caleb DeWeerd and Madelyn Clausen will be among the total of 983 student-athletes who have qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The Trinity athletes will compete in the national meet held at Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State in Brookings, South Dakota on February 28-March.
 
DeWeerd, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is making his second appearance at the national indoor championships.  During the season he achieved the NAIA qualifying standard in both the mile and 1,000 meter and will be racing in the 1K meter at the national meet. DeWeerd comes into the event with the second fastest time of 21 runners with a school record time of 2:30.09. He will take to the track at 3:30 pm on Friday, March 1, in the semifinals. The finals will take place on Saturday at 2:35 pm.

In her first NAIA national championship meet, Clausen will compete in the high jump. The sophomore from Lakeville, Minnesota, qualified for the event with a height of 5’03.75” and is ranked in a tie for 20th in the field off 33 athletes at the national meet.  The women’s high jump is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 2.
