Trolls Score in Multiple Events in Ripon Invite

The Trolls made the trip to Wisconsin for the Ripon College Dick Hendricks Invitational.  The field of teams at the event consisted mostly NCAA III schools. Overall Trinity’s women’s and men’s teams combined for a total of 10 top three finishes. The women finished with 70.5 points for a fifth place finish and the men scored 67 points for a third place finish of the 10 teams at the meet.

The women’s team had one individual first place finish with Madelyn Clausen winning the high jump. She was the best of a field of nine jumpers with a height of 5-02.25. Also scoring in the field events was Muabon Paye with a third place finish in the long jump at 15-11.50.

The other first place finish for the women came in the distance medley relay. Megan DeWeerd, Olivia Hoekstra, Allie Boss, and Nicole Syverson teamed up to bring the baton across the line with a time of 13:02.30. Members of that relay team also scored in other individual events. Hoekstra was fourth in the 400 meter (1:03.35) and Boss (2:31.29), DeWeerd (2:31.87), and Syverson (2:33.32) finished fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively in the 800 meter.

The men’s team picked up a large majority of their points in the relay events. They won both the first and last event of the day with first place finishes in the distance medley and 4 x 400 meter relays. The distance medley team consisted of Nick Heidinger, Andrew Miller, Brantley VanOverloop, and Caleb DeWeerd. They posted a time of 10:45.89. DeWeerd and Miller were also a part of the 4 x 4 along with Andrew Dobrescu and Noah Friesen. That foursome clocked a time of 3:34.95.

In addition to their relay work VanOverloop and Dobrescu had second place finishes in individual events.
VanOverloop was runner-up in the 800 meter at 2:02.41 and Dobrescu was second in the mile at 4:39.33.

The Trolls will compete next in the CCAC Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene University on February 15-16.
