Trolls Participate in ONU Invite

The Trolls competed in a large field of teams at the Olivet Nazarene University Invite in Bourbonnais, Illinois. While team scores were not calculated, Trinity faced athletes from as many as 20 different schools.  At the end of the team the women’s team gained their first NAIA national qualifier and had two more NCCAA qualifying performances.

The highlight for the women’s team came in the high jump where Madelyn Clausen became a NAIA national qualifier. She cleared a height of 5-03.75 to reach the national mark. With that height she finished in second place in the event in a field of 11 competitors.

Also noteworthy for the women’s team were two NCCAA qualifying races. Olivia Hoekstra took seventh in the 400 meter with the qualifying time of 1:03.22. Nicole Syverson hit the standard in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:58.26 to finish in fifth place in the race.

Another strong finish for the women came from Allie Boss in the 1000 meter at third place of 14 runners in the 1000 meter. She posted a time of 3:18.28.

The men’s team was once again led by Caleb DeWeerd who won the 1000 meter. He outran 10 other competitors to post a time of 2:37.77. Also in the race Andrew Dobrescu took eighth place at 2:46.01.

The teams compete next on February 9 at Ripon College.
