Trolls Compete in Fighting Bee Invite

The track and field teams had the opportunity to compete in the St. Ambrose University Fighting Bee Invite in Davenport, Iowa in their second indoor meet of the season. At the meet Trinity saw some of their conference competition as well as other NAIA schools. The women’s team scored a total of 30 points and took 11th place of the 12 teams. The men’s team scored 23 points and finished in 10th.

A large majority of the points for the women came in the relay events.  Allie Boss, Brittany Hoekman, Annie Rangel, and Megan DeWeerd teamed up in the distance medley relay and finished in second place with a time of 13:25.29. Hoekman and Rangel were also a part of the 4 x 400 meter relay along with Valerie Hoekstra and Mikayla VanLaan. That foursome finished in fifth place at 10:48.33.

In addition to the relay races, Boss also earned points in the mile in which she crossed the finish line in seventh place. Her time in that race was 5:39.67.

The other points for the women came from Madelyn Clausen in the vertical jumps. She took second place in the high jump with a height of 5-02.25. In the pole vault Clausen cleared 8-01.50 to capture fifth place.

Similar to the women’s team, the men’s team also scored most of their points in the relay events. The foursome of Brantley VanOverloop, Noah Friesen, Nick Heidinger, and Caleb DeWeerd won the distance medley relay. They clocked a time of 11:00.90. VanOverloop and DeWeerd joined Ryan Mathes and Andrew Dobrescu in the 4 x 800 meter relay for a third place finish at 8:15. 87. Mathes and Dobrescu  paired up with Andrew Miller and Jurrone Petry in the 4 x 400 meter relay to score a point with an eighth place finish. Their time was 3:41.06.

In addition to the relay points the team picked up a couple of points in the 1000 meter where Nick Heidinger finished in seventh place. He crossed the line at 4:38.61.

The Trolls compete next on February 2 at Olivet Nazarene University at 10 am.
