Trinity Performs at NCCAA National Championships

The Trolls were among a field of 26 teams that competed in the NCCAA Track and Field Championships at the Key Track and Field Complex on the campus of Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. Competing in 13 different events, Trinity had seven athletes place. They also had two distance runners earn All-American honors. Overall the women scored 24.5 points and finished in 14th place and the men scored three points for 23rd place.

The two All-American performances came on two separate days in two different distance races. On Friday Nicole Syverson took third place in the 10,000 meter in a field of 14 runners. She finished with a time of 40:59.72. Also placing in that race was Hope Fathman with an eighth place finish at 43:37.63. The next day April VanRyn put in an All-American performance with a third place finish in the 5,000 meter. She had the seventh best time going into the race, but moved up in the standings with her finish time of 18:11.90.

The women’s team also scored points on the track in the 400 meter. Olivia Hoekstra placed fourth in the event with a time of 59.14. The other scoring for the women came in the field events. Madelyn Clausen cleared a height of 5-01.25 in the high jump to tie for sixth place. Daisy Geurink capped off her collegiate career at seventh place in the hammer throw. She threw a distance of 138-04.

The one place finisher for the men’s team was Kyle Vander Plaats in the 10,000 meter. He ran a time of 34:58.77 to take sixth place in the event.

The Trolls have concluded their season with the exception of April VanRyn competing in the 10,000 meter at the NAIA National Championships on May 24-26.
