Trolls Compete at Grace Lancer Invitational

The Trolls made a trip to Winona Lake, Indiana, to participate in the Grace College Lancer Invitational. In a field of teams from eight different schools, the women finished in third place with 83 points. The men’s team was in fifth place with a total of 45 points. At the meet the Trolls had two more athletes that qualified for the NCCAA national meet and set a school record.  

Olivia Hoekstra gained her third NCCAA national qualifying standard with a school record in the 100 meter. She crossed the line at 13.05 to break the previous record by .01. Overall she finished third of the 11 participants in the race.

Hoekstra was also a part of two relays that finished in the top three.  She joined with Annie Rangel, Carissa Wisse, and Brittany Hoekman to win the 4 x 400 meter relay at 4:24.59. In the 4 x 100 meter Hoekstra and Wisse, along with Christa Veenstra and b, took third at 52.18

April VanRyn also qualified for her third NCCAA event as she hit the mark in the 1500 meter. The freshman won the race that included 16 competitors with a time of 5:00.42.

Madelyn Clausen jumped her season best again in the high jump again at a height of 5-01 to win that event.

On the men’s team Brantley VanOverloop was a top finisher when he came in second in the 1500 meter in a field of 26 runners. He clocked a time of 4:14.65. He also was a part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that took third place at 3:40.89. The other members of that team were Sam DeKryger, Nick Heidinger, and Justin Schutt.

Heidinger also placed in the 800 meter in sixth place of 22 competitors. He finished with a time of 2:04.54. Kevin Courtney took seventh in that race at 2:05.98.

The teams will compete in the CCAC Championships at Joliet Memorial Stadium on May 4-5.
