Two Freshman Compete at NAIA Indoor Championships

The Trolls had two freshmen represent the indoor track teams at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship held at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas, on March 1-3. April VanRyn ran in the 5000 meter and Caleb DeWeerd raced in the mile.

In a field of 19 runners VanRyn had the second fastest qualifying time. Her 5,000 meter event opened the running events of the meet on Thursday. In the prelims she ran a time of 18:11.55 and finished in 12th place which put her in a position to advance to the finals. In the finals run on Saturday she improved her prelim time at 18:07.93 and took 10th place overall.

DeWeerd took to the track on Friday in the mile prelims. Entering the race he had the 14th best qualifying time of the 18 competitors in the race. He ran his personal best in the race with a time of 4:19.39 and took 13th place overall.
