Caleb DeWeerd Earns NCCAA Runner of the Week Honors

Freshman Caleb DeWeerd (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) was named the NCCAA Indoor Track Student-Athlete of the Week honors for January 22-27. DeWeerd earned the honor after finishing first place in two races at the St. Ambrose University Invitational on January 27. He outran a field of 13 runners in the mile and crossed the line 20 seconds ahead of the next competitor with a time of 4:23.01. His time achieved NCCAA national qualifying standards and is the second fastest time in the NCCAA.

DeWeerd also took first place in the 800 meter. He finished with a time of 2:00.59 and bested 20 other runners.

At the meet DeWeerd teamed up with Justin Schutt, Kevin Courtney, and Jurrone Petry in the 4 x 400 meter relay for a 5th place finish at 3:39.94. Overall DeWeerd was involved in scoring 24 of the team’s overall 60 points in the meet.
