Trolls Compete at NAIA Nationals

The track and field team had four athletes compete at the NAIA National Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  For the women Ashley Jourdan competed in the 800 meter and with a top eight finish she earned All-America honors.  For the men Keegan Fitzsimmons, Cody Velthuizen, and Alex Clark took part in the marathon.

Jourdan started the competition for the Trolls in the trials of the 800 meter on Friday, May 26.  In the field of 28 runners, Jourdan was in the top eight to earn the right to advance to the finals.  She took to the track again late Saturday afternoon and crossed the line with a time of 2:14.64 to capture seventh place overall. As a place finisher she earned All-American honors.

At 6 am on Saturday morning the three Trinity men competed in the marathon. The warm and humid conditions were not ideal for the grueling race and it took its toll on many of the athletes. Fitzsimmons endured the conditions and the distance and finished in 32nd place of the 77 runners. He ran the marathon in a time of 3:09:08.30. Velthuizen and Clark were among the 32 runners that did not finish the race.
