Trolls Take Top Finishes at Grace Invitational

The Trolls competed in the inaugural Grace College Lancer Invitational in Winona Lake, Indiana.  There were a total of five teams that endured the rainy conditions.  The women’s team scored 165 points and took first place. The men were in second place with 58 points.

For the women’s team the sprinter-jumper dual athletes scored a number of points for the team. Katie Moran ended with three first place finishes. In the field events she won the long jump at 15-01.25 and the triple jump at 31-08.5. She was on the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team at 52.35. In addition she placed third in the 100 meter. Sarah Kliora placed in three events with two runner-up places. She was second in the 200 at 28.09 and in the triple jump at 39-04.25, while taking third in the long jump at 13-07.5.

On the track Ashley Jourdan crossed the line in first place in the 1500 meter at 4:48.66. She was also a part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that placed first at 4:21.75. Nicole Syverson earned another top finish for the team in the 5000 meter. She crossed the line at 19:03.08,

In the throwing events Miranda Nikkel and Taylor Janke each placed in two events. Nikkel was sixth in the shot put at 290-8.75 and seventh in the hammer throw at 106-01. Yanke finished in sixth in the javelin at 67-10 and in the discus at 100-01.

The men’s team earned one first place finish and that came from Keegan Fitzsimmons in the 5000 meter. He logged a time of 15:45.29. Also in that event was Kyle VanderPlaats with a third place finish at 16:28.75.

Nick Heidinger scored in two events for the team. He took second in the 3000 meter steeple-chase. His time of 10:13.85 missed the NCCAA qualifying mark by only three seconds. He also ran a leg of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that took fifth.

Brantley VanOverloop also placed in two events. On the track he was third in the steeplechase at 10:20.51. In the field events he took fourth in the javelin with a distance of 127-01.

The teams will compete next on May 5-6 in the CCAC Championships.
