Trolls Compete in Benedictine Relays
The track and field teams participated in the Benedictine University Relays (Lisle, Illinois) among a large field of teams. In the two-day event the Trolls had many fine performances as well as had five new NCCAA national qualifiers.
The women’s team had the most success on the track where they had four new NCCAA qualifiers. Katie Moran reached the national standard in the 100 meter with a time of 13.20. She also scored points for the team as a part of the 4 x 200 meter relay team. In addition she posted a distance of over 10 meters in the triple jump for a 13th place finish.
Celina Wanta became a NCCAA national qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles as she crossed the line at 1:09.81. She finished in ninth place in the event. Wanta was ran the 400 meter leg of the sprint medley relay team that took second place with a time of 4:33.81. Jessica Wiersma, who also ran a national qualifying time in the 100 meter for the second time this season, and Moran ran the 200 meter portions of that relay and Anna Spotts anchored the event with the 800 meter leg.
The other two NCCAA qualifiers came in the 10,000 meter. Nicole Syverson and Hope Fathman finished in eighth and ninth respectively. Syverson finished at 40:57.37 and Fathman at 41:00.60.
Ashley Jourdan placed in the top five in individual races in events she has already qualified in. She took fourth in the 800 meter with a time of2:20.72 and fifth in the 1500 meter at 4:49.42.
For the men’s team Keegan Fitzsimmons had a good day with a NCCAA qualifying time in the 10,000 meter. He finished third in the race with a time of 33:21.42.
Also in the distance events, Nick Heidinger ran well in the 3000 meter steeple-chase and took tenth place. His time of 10:12.65 was only two seconds off the NCCAA qualifying standard.
The teams will compete next on April 22 at Concordia University.
