Trolls Compete at Benedictine
In their second outdoor meet of the season the Trolls took part in the Benedictine University NCAA Challenge (Lisle, Illinois). The women’s team scored a total of 36 points and finished in ninth place of the 12 scoring teams. In addition they had NCCAA national qualifiers in two more events. The men’s team tallied 20 points and was in eighth place of 14 teams.
For the women Jessica Wiersma reached NCCAA qualifying standards in the 100 meter. She crossed the line with a time of 13.22 and took 18th place. Wiersma was also a part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team that finished in eighth and the 4 x 400 meter relay team that took seventh.
The other NCCAA qualifier was Ashley Jourdan in the 1500 meter. She won the race with a time of 4:52.41. It is Jourdan’s second national qualification. Along with Wiersma she also was a part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team.
The women’s team picked up points in the 5000 meter with three runners in the top eight. Nicole Syverson took second at 19:30.25, Hope Fathman was third at 19:38.30, and Andrea Sanchez was seventh at 21:16.90.
In the field events Molly Toepper placed in the javelin. Her throw of 88-06 earned her a sixth place finish.
The men’s team scored the majority of their points in the 5000 meter where they had two top four finishers. Keegan Fitzsimmons took second at 15:58.80 and Alex Clark was fourth at 16:46.67. Also in the distance events Nick Heidinger finished in seventh place in the 3000 meter steeplechase. He crossed the line at 10:22.69.
The top field event finisher for the Trolls was Jason Nagelkirk in the javelin. He took seventh place with a distance of 135-00.
The teams return to Lisle on April 14-15 for the Benedictine Relays.
