Outdoor Season Begins at University of Chicago

The Trolls opened their outdoor season at the University of Chicago Ted Haydon Invitational. The teams had a variety of quality performances, including three NCCAA national qualifying marks. Overall the women’s team scored a total of 50 points and finished in fifth place of 14 teams. The men’s team placed in two events for six points and 13th place.

All three of the national qualifiers were on the women’s team. In the field events Daisy Geurink become a national qualifier in the hammer throw with a distance of 128-06. She finished in 6th place in the event. Geurink also scored points in the shot put with a seventh place finish. Also in the throwing events, Molly Toepper qualified in the javelin. She took third place with a distance of 102-06. Rachel Janke picked up points with an eighth place finish in the discus and seventh place in the hammer throw.

The team scored more points in the field event jumps. In the long jump Erin Wessels took sixth and Celina Wanta was eighth. Sarah Kliora recorded a 31-08 in the triple jump for seventh place.

On the track Ashley Jourdan led the team with a second place finish in the 800 meter. Her time of 2:18.27 was a NCCAA national qualifying time. Jourdan also took second in the 4 x 400 meter relay along with Wanta, Carissa Wisse, and Anna Spotts. Spotts doubled on that second place finish with another in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.73.

On the men’s team the Trolls scored points with two top place finishes in the 1500 meter. Alex Clark and Keegan Fitzsimmons took seventh and eighth place respectively. Clark ran a 4:10.48 and Fitzsimmons finished at 4:12.58. The team’s other points came in a seventh place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The foursome of Andy Boss, Sam DeKryger, Justin Schutt, and Kevin Courtney logged a 3:39.06.

The Trolls will compete next on April 8 at Benedictine University.
