Trolls Compete in CCAC Indoor Championships

The Trolls competed in the inaugural CCAC Indoor Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois). The two-day event featured 10 conference schools competing in 20 events. The women’s team scored a total of 37 points and finished in sixth place. The men’s team earned 13 points for an eighth place finish.

Of the 37 points earned by the women, Ashley Jourdan was involved in 23 of those points.  On the first day of the meet she won the 1000 meter. Her time of 2:58.83 is of NAIA qualifying standard and the second event she has qualified for nationally. Jourdan took second place in the mile at 5:08.22 for another eight points. She earned All-Conference honors in those events. She also picked up points with a seventh place finish in the 800 meter with a time of 2:23.44. The fourth event she placed in was the 4 x 400 meter relay that finished in sixth. Sharing that place with her was Brittany Hoekman, Jessica Wiersma, and Anna Spotts as the foursome posted a 4:21.70.

The women’s team also picked up some points in the 5000 meter race in which Nicole Syverson finished in sixth and Hope Fathman took eights. Syverson posted a 19:18.14 and Fathman ran her personal best at 19:31.25.

Although they finished outside of the scoring realm, the women also had fine performances in the jumping and throwing events with many personal bests.

The men’s team show personal bests in the sprints, but scored their points in the distance events. Cody Velthuizen was the high place finisher with fifth in the mile. He crossed the line with a time of 4:24.59. He also earned points with an eighth place finish in the 3000 meter where he ran a 9:11.91.

Along with Velthuizen, Alex Clark placed in the mile at eighth with a time of 4:26.81. Clark, along with Luke Boss, Brantley VanOverloop, and Kevin Courtney took fifth in the 4 x 800 meter relay. The finished the race at 8:26.10.

The meet concludes the indoor season for the teams, except for Ashley Jourdan who will compete at the NAIA Championships on March 2-4.
