Track and Field Action at Grand Valley State

In their second indoor meet of the season the Trolls took part in the Grand Valley State University Mike Lints Alumni Open in Allendale, Michigan. The Trinity athletes were among the over 1,000 athletes that competed in the running, jumping, and throwing events. The women’s team earned three points with two place finisher and the men’s team did not score any team points.

The highlight of the meet was an NAIA national qualifying performance for Ashley Jourdan in the mile. With her finish time of 5:09.79 she achieved the NAIA “B” standard and become the team’s first qualifier.  Jourdan finished in 7th place of the 45 runners in the race.

Anna Spotts also earned a point for the team with an 8th place finish in the 600 meter. She crossed the line at 1:56.34.  Nicole Syverson had a notable performance in the 5000 meter as her time of 19:31.39 achieved NCCAA national qualifying standards.

The mile was once again the strongest race for the men’s team. Alex Clark and Cody Velthuizen finished in the top half of the field in 25th and 26th respectively. Clark posted a time of 4:27.04 and Velthuizen finished at 4:27.24.

The teams will compete again on February 4 at Olivet Nazarene University.
